Registration Overview

Registration provides us with much of the information required to initiate the CGBP credential process.

Creating a profile on the NASBITE International website will give you access to further steps in the credentialing process which are not available until you're logged in.

Please Note: profiles created for the CGBP credential are separate from the profiles you may or may not have created for membership in NASBITE (since you may obtain a CGBP credential without becoming a NASBITE member, and vice versa).

Both new and repeat candidates should use this site to register for the exam.

You'll have the opportunity to update this information after you obtain your CGBP credential to ensure it remains current.

Please take care to remember (i.e. write down in a safe place) the username and password you select. You will need it to complete your application in subsequent steps.

Please do your best to complete all fields accurately and completely to prevent possible delays in the processing of your application. (Note: unlike previous CGBP testing windows, you will not be providing your qualifications during registration. Rather, those who pass the exam will have the opportunity to upload their work experience and/or applicable college transcripts in Step 5.)

What's The Cost?

The CGBP application fee is $100 USD, and the exam fee is $295 USD, for a total fee of $395 USD.

Candidates retaking the exam only need to pay the registration fee of $100.

Important Notes On Testing Windows:

If you have registered and created a profile in Step One above, and you will not be able to take the exam during the next scheduled testing window, then please wait to make a payment until after the next scheduled registration window closes (see Step Three below for registration and testing windows).

If you have already registered and paid, but cannot take the exam during the next scheduled testing window, please contact us immediately.

Scheduling Overview

NASBITE International now offers the CGBP exam through the national and international test network of Prometric, Inc. This provides candidates with over 200 test sites within the U.S., and an additional 200 sites internationally. Candidates will be able to reserve a date and time that best matches with their availability.

IMPORTANT. Read Carefully:

Although you will reserve your actual exam city, test location, date, and time in this step, because the actual scheduling and reservation of your seat at the testing facility happens on the Prometric website (not here on the NASBITE site) you will not receive authorization to complete this step until approximately 2-3 weeks prior to the first available test date, as is Prometric's policy.

Also note that, regardless of when you register for the exam in STEP ONE above, your Prometric Eligibility ID (which is required to register for the exam on the Prometric website) will not be sent until about one week after registration closes, which is generally 2-3 weeks before the first exam date.

Because Prometric maintains a large capacity of test locations, dates, and times to accomodate the CGBP exam, you should be able to select from a number of suitable date and time options, even though you will not be able to reserve your exact exam date and time until 2-3 weeks before the exam.

Only AFTER you receive your Confirmation Notice and the included Eligibility ID (which also signals that your candidate information has successfully been entered into Prometric's database), a link to the Prometric Testing Center website will be provided to allow you to schedule your testing appointment at a Prometric Testing City. You will also be able to reschedule an appointment if at least 48 hours notice is given prior to your scheduled date / time for the exam.

We recommend you schedule your testing appointment promptly after receiving your Confirmation Notice and Eligibility ID so that you are able to select the testing center, date, and time that is most convenient to you.

You may schedule your specific testing appointment at any time after obtaining access to the Prometric website, however, you must schedule the appointment at least one day in advance of the exam.

Warning: Candidates who miss the exam scheduling deadline for a given testing window will NOT be able to take the exam, and will need to contact our web staff so that they can register to take the exam during the next testing window. A $50 fee will be assessed.

June 4 through June 16, 2012

December 3 through December 15, 2012

Changing to a Different Test Window

Candidates that have confirmed their Prometric test center, date, and time within a test window testing date range, may elect to not test during the test window and wait to take the exam at a future exam date. To delay your testing date, please cancel your appointment at least two business days prior to your confirmed exam appointment.

Candidates are encouraged to cancel their appointment online at the Prometric website. - alternatively you may call the Prometric Customer Service Center at 888-244-8378.

The cost to cancel your confirmed exam reservation and move to a future testing window is US $50. Please note that you must reschedule your exam within one year of your original exam date.

Exam Essentials

The NASBITE CGBP is a 150 question, multiple choice exam. The questions come entirely from the CGBP tasks and knowledge statements.

The time allowed to take the exam is three hours, though candidate should plan on spending 3.5 to 4 hours at the test center.

Prometric Exam Proceedures: Taking the CGBP exam at Prometric test centers will be via computer based testing. You will be provided time prior to the start of the CGBP exam to familiarize yourself with the testing software. When taking the exam, you will be able to skip a question and later return to prior questions. The software also allows you to 'strike-out' answers that you believe are not correct so you can focus on the remaining options, just as you might do with a paper exam. The software will also allow you to change answers, and will warn you if you try to exit the exam with questions not answered.

Passing The Exam

Scores on the CGBP Examination are reported as scaled scores where the highest possible score is 800 and the lowest reported score is 200. A scaled score of at least 500 is required to pass the examination.

The national CGBP Examination is criterion-referenced. That means your exam score is not compared to others who took the exam (often known as test-curving). Rather, your score is based strictly on the number of questions answered correctly. There is no deduction for wrong answers so you should answer all questions - even ones for which you are not sure of the answer.

The passing score on the CGBP Examination was determined by a panel of experts in the field of international business. Candidates must obtain the minimum scaled score of 500 to pass regardless of when or where they take the exam. A scaled score is reported rather than a raw score because the scaled score will not vary due to slight differences from test to test. There is no minimum or maximum number of candidates that will be awarded the CGBP designation for each exam.

Candidates are notified if they passed the exam within for weeks after the close of a test window. Notices are sent by mail from PES. Candidates that do not pass also receive their score total score, and their score in each of the four domains. Candidates that pass the exam are provided their total score.

The exam is closed book. You are not permitted to bring any notes or resources to the exam. Calculators are not needed and are not permitted.

College Level Studies

Besides passing the NASBITE CGBP Exam, candidates must also qualify through either college-level studies or work experience.

For college-level studies, the candidate must complete and earn credit for two years of college-level courses. These may be in any field.

A degree does not have to have been earned. Candidates that have received any two, four, or post graduate degree would automatically qualify for the CGBP designation assuming they have passed the exam.

For candidates that have not received a degree, they must indicate on their application where they have studied and how many hours (credits) of college credit has been received. For most colleges and universities using the credit-hour system, this would mean at least 32 hours of classes must have been successfully completed.

Int. Trade Experience

Instead of qualifying for the NASBITE CGBP based on passing the exam and college level studies, candidates may elect to receive the credential by passing the exam and evidencing two years of work experience in the field of international trade.

This work experience must be directly related to international trade in any of the four domains. Relevant work experience would include international sales, international freight forwarding, international banking, or international customer support.
